Diablo II Customs/Mods Archive
Customs or otherwise known as Mods, are a part of every game. These are patches that when activated, will alter specific things in Diablo 2, either statistically or graphically or both. They are great when you get bored of the original game, and offer fresh new strategies and tactics to try. Note that a custom is not a hack, and will not function in Realm Servers. They will also be incompatible in multiplayer, unless all other players in the game have also downloaded and installed the same patch.
A Diablo II custom operates in two forms, either by taking the form of a Patch_d2.mpq file or as a .d2m patch archive. The former will automatically activate itself when you move it into your Diablo 2 directory. It is highly suggested that you backup your original patch.d2.mpq before installing a custom, so that you may normal Diablo 2 whenever you wish. All customs do not require any additional programs other than Winzip and Diablo 2.
The latter acts much like a cwad file in Starcraft, and is a great development by Archangel. It is activated by using Archangel's Diablo 2 Mod Manager, which is found within our mod utilities. Before attempting to install or create any customs, it is advised that you check our Customs FAQ, it contains everything you need to know to start playing a different Diablo 2.
