Horde Structure Archives: -Last Updated 1-17-2001
The buildings available to the Horde will be fairly familiar to anyone whose played prior Warcraft games. Many of the buildings of Warcraft 2 and their functions have been retained in Warcraft 3, including nearly all of the basic structures such as the Great Hall, Barracks etc. Others, like the Troll Lodge, while renamed, will be instantly familiar to Warcraft 2 players. Despite this, there are still numerous new buildings to accommodate new units within the Horde.

Horde buildings are usually constructed out of wood and stone, and hence are all corporeal and flammable. They can be built and repaired by peons and will behave like they did in Warcraft 2 in almost every aspect. Defensive structures again come in the form of towers.

Huts:

Allows: None
Tech-path: No Requirements
Special Property: Provides Housing
Just as all warriors require weapons and armor, so do all warriors require a place to rest. The hut is a cheap and crudely built structure that provides basic housing to the Horde troops. A player must provide enough housing by building huts, or he will be unable to train any new units. Huts will operate the same way as farms did in Warcraft 2.

Great Hall:

Allows: Peons, Barracks
Tech-path: No Requirements
Related Images: [1]
As a center of any Horde settlement, the Town Hall serves as both a resource depot and a command center. Peons are trained here to perform menial tasks of construction, repair and harvesting. This is also where vital raw materials are gathered to be processed and then distributed.

Most games will see that players begin with a Town Hall under their command. The structure may be upgraded to a Stronghold when necessary to access advanced buildings and units.

Special Commands:

Train Peon:
The Great Hall can train peons.

Upgrade to Stronghold: (Requires Barracks)
The Great Hall can be upgraded to a Stronghold.

Stronghold:

Allows: Peons, Barracks
Tech-path: Town Hall - Barracks - Stronghold
The massive, jagged spires of the Orc Stronghold are a constant reminder to the Horde of their power and dominance. As the center of larger Orcish settlements, the Stronghold can process resources in the same fashion as a Great. These intimidating structures of steel and stone also server as strong barriers, greatly reducing the damage inflicted by enemy forces. Those who consider themselves to be superior warriors will only act under the direction of an overseer who has proven himself capable enough to establish a Stronghold.

Special Commands:

Train Peon:
The Stronghold can train peons.

Horde Barracks:

Allows: Grunts
Tech-path: Town Hall - Barracks
The most honored structure in any Horde Community, the Barracks maintains all the necessary facilities to train Orc, Troll and Tauren troops for battle. The clash of battle axes and the swoosh of spears can be heard from dawn to dusk, a constant reminder that the Horde has the fiercest warriors among the known lands.

Special Commands:

Train Grunt:
The Barracks can train Grunts.

Train Head Hunter: (Requires Troll Lodge)
The Barracks can train Head Hunters.

Train Witch Doctor: (Requires Voodoo Lounge)
The Barracks can train Troll Witch Doctors.

Construct Catapult: (Requires Forge)

Train Tauren: (Requires Tauren Totem)

Troll Lodge:

Allows: Head Hunter
Tech-path: Great Hall - Barracks -Troll Lodge
Carved from the husk of an ancient Ironwood tree, the Troll Lodge is a vital aspect of Troll society. Trolls use the site not only for accommodation, but also the fashioning of throwing axes and spears. In times of need, the Troll Lodge may also be upgraded in order to attract higher aspects of Troll society.

Special Commands:

Upgrade Throwing Weapons:
Increases the damage dealt by Head Hunters.

Upgrade to Voodoo Lounge: (Requires Stronghold)
The Troll Lodge maybe upgraded to a Voodoo Lounge.

Voodoo Lounge:

Allows: Witch Doctor
Tech-path: Stronghold - Troll Lodge - Voodoo Lounge

In bases with significant troll influence, the Troll Lodge maybe fitted with a snazzy alchemist lab. These facilities attract Witch Doctors, who can then prepare effective potions for the benefit of the Horde. The extra space allow herbs and concoctions to be stored, and provides trolls with quiet place to develop their potions, or to simply lounge around.

Special Commands:

Upgrade Throwing Weapons:
Increases the damage dealt by Head Hunters.

Research Tracking:
Allows Head Hunters to Track.

Research Blood Lust:
Allows Witch Doctors to cast Blood Lust.

Research Shadow Pact:
Allows Witch Doctors to cast Shadow Pact.

Forge:

Allows: Catapult, Tauren Totem (With Stronghold)
Tech-path: Barracks - Forge
Related Images: [1]
The orcs that live and work in the Forge are veteran warriors themselves. Understanding the value of strong steel, they are always developing new techniques and methods to improve their weapons and upgrade the quality of their armor. The steel that they forge is essential in the manufacture of the devastating catapult, and their skills also aid the construction of advanced structures.

Special Commands:

Upgrade Melee Weapons: Increases the damage melee units will deal.

Upgrade Armor: Increases the defense of armored units.

Upgrade Catapult Rock: Increases the damage of the catapult.

Tauren Totem:

Allows: Tauren
Tech-path: Blacksmith + Stronghold - Tauren Totem
Related Images: [1]
The Tauren Totem is the Hordes' way of paying tribute to their new and honored allies, the Tauren. Carved using fabled redwood into the form of the Tauren Lords, it is symbol of their physical prowess and superiority. They serve as both training grounds and spiritual shrines for the Minataurs, whose pride deems that they will only live in towns that have such a totem in place.

Special Commands:

Research Bull Rush: Gives taurens the ability to use their special ability 'Bull Rush'

Beastiary:

Allows: Raiders
Tech-path: Unknown
The orcs have had a long tradition of using aggressive beasts and monsters to aid their troops. The bestiary is just the place where such creatures and kept and trained. Monitored by ever-vigilant beast masters, the bestiary provides inestimable value to the Horde.

Special Commands:

Train Raider:
The Bestiary can train raiders.

Upgrade to Wyvern Roost: (Requires Unknown)
The Bestiary can be upgraded into an Wyvern roost.

Wyvern Roost:

Allows: Wyvern Riders
Tech-path: Unknown
The control of wyverns is an extremely tricky matter, as these beasts are not only powerful, but also extremely aggressive and violent. A giant prison house is constructed to house these beasts. Bars of steel are included to ensure than a wyvern does not break loose before it is fully trained. The process of training a wyvern rider is both tedious and dangerous… but the product is worth the risk.

Special Commands:

Train Raider:
The Bestiary allows can train raiders.

Train Wyvern Rider:
The wyvern roost can train Wyvern Riders.

Altar of Storms

Allows: Heroes
Tech-path: Unknown
Related Images: [1]
Constructed from slated pieces of elven Runestone that was captured in the second war, the Altar of Storms can still be found at large Orcish settlements, but for an entirely different reason. Carved upon the surface of the unblemished rock, lies not demonic runes, but the names of all those heroes who sacrificed themselves in the battle. The Altar serves as a beacon to the young daring, who want only to see their name forever engraved.

The Altar of Storms serves as a focal point for Horde heroes. The hiring and resurrection of heroes will all happen here.

Special Commands:

Hire Hero: The Altar of Storms will allow the player to hire any hero unit of the Horde. Certain hero types may require other structures to be built before they can be hired.

Ressurect Hero: All heroes who've died in battle will be listed at the Altar of Storms. For a price depending on the hero's class and level, the player can choose to resurrect a hero that was previously killed. The cost will not be cheap.

Horde Scout Tower:

Prerequisites: Unknown
Allows: Unknown
Properties: Detector
Crudely constructed using unpolished wood, Watch towers resemble primitive huts laced with bones and furnished with hay. While weak and insubstantial, their height allows Orcs within to see past the canopies into the horizons beyond. They allow early detection of any human invasion and provide detection for concealed attacks.
