Heroes of the Scourge: Last Updated 2-6-2002
As Warcraft III nears its release, the Scourge becomes more and more like a traditional race. At one stage, all Undead units either raised from corpses or magically summoned. Now due to balance issues, only the Skeleton and Archer and the Skeleton Warrior can be created from purely many and corpses.

Scourge heroes are fairly balanced, but like the humans, they don't' have a hero that's capable of flight. This is compensated by the fact that all of the Scourge Heroes are adept spellcasters. This reflects the fact that the Scourge is highly dependent on magic, and that the mindless swarm of the dead is ruled by the powerful arcane.

Dread Lord:

    Spellcasters of animated bone, the Dread Lord is a bane to all living. Wearing a black cape that covers the rotting insides, these creatures of darkness can steal the living essence from its foes to lengthen their own tormented existence. The Dead Lord is part fighter, part mage and 100% vampire. The Dread Lord is a terrifying enemy in battle, and is one of the few units who could actually become healthier as the a battle wears on.

    1-22-2002: Vampiracy now turned into an aura, so it benefits all units around the Dread Lord as well. Dark Summoning replaces Charm as ultimate skill.

    Special Abilities:

    Death Coil: Similar to Warcraft 2 Spell of the name. This is a ranged attack that drains the life force from a targeted area and directs it to the Dread Lord.

    Vampiric Bite: A melee attack in which the Dread Lord drinks the blood of the target unit. The victim takes grievous damage while the Dread Lord steals all the life he just dealt.

    Dark Summoning (Ultimate): The ultimate spell for the Dread Lord allows for him to summon his troops from afar to his side..

    Passive Abilities:

    Vampiric Aura: The Dread Lord and all units around it gains part of the life that they deal, much like the Life Drain ability in Diablo II. The higher the level of this skill, the higher the percentage of life absorbed.

Death Knight

    The Death Knight is a Dark Crusader, the arch nemesis the of Paladin. Riding nightmares that are formed out of mist, they are able to cross the battlefield at terrifying speed, bringing darkness and chaos in their wake. The Anti-Paladin is a well-rounded unit, and has many spells that do the exact opposite to those of the Paladin. Note that the Death Knight is the new name of the Anti-Paladin. The original unit called 'Death Knight' has now been removed from the game.

    Special Abilities:

    Phase Shift: Same spell as that featured in World of Warcraft. Its effect is currently unknown.

    Life Siphon: Deals direct damage to living units near the targeted area. The amount of damage dependent on the amount of mana the Death Knight has. It works the same way as Exorcism, except to living units.

    Death Pact: Can only be cast upon the player's units (including summoned creatures). The target will instantly die and a percentage of his remaining hit points will be converted into a magical shield that protects the Death Knight. The more skill points put into the spell, the higher the percentage, exceeding 100% at higher levels.

    Passive Abilities:

    Unholy Aura: When friendly units around the Anti-Paladin are hit by enemy, a percentage of that damage is redirected back at the enemy. Works similar to the Paladin's thorn aura in Diablo II.

Lich:

    Weapons: Touch of Darkness

    From meters away, the Lich radiates an aura of arcane energy that is rivaled by few. They seek to further their arcane power at all costs, and have little compunction in destroying anything that stands between them an their goal. Armed with a fearsome arsenal of offensive spells, the Lich provides magical backup for the scourge. Without the need to fulfill mortal requirements such as rest, the Lich can devote all 24 hours a day to its studies and consequently their power is immense.

    2-6-2002: Frozen Armor renamed to Frost Armor.

    1-2-2002: Glacier Modified to wall of Ice.

    11-11-2001: Summon Frosty Wyrm Removed, Frost Wyrms are now trained rather than summoned.

    Special Abilities:

    Disenchant: Dispels all enchantments in the targeted area..

    Frost Armor: Protects a unit with an aura of extreme cold. Enemies who attack the unit take damage from frost. The spell also boosts the unit's defense.

    Wall of Ice: Summons a wall of Ice into the battlefield. Any unit that tries to cross the wall is frozen in place and then take continuos damage.

    Death and Deacay: A powerful spell that the Lich casts upon a large area of ground. A cloud of death and corruption slowly destroys all units and buildings in the area of effect.
