Units and men will the primary focus of Warcraft 3. While predecessors focused on base and resource management, they are now no longer the keys to victory. Instead the control of each unit and his/her distinct abilities will win the game.
To reflect this, units in Warcraft 3 will cost significantly more, around three times that of the units in Starcraft. Each unit will also be able to sustain a lot more damage, and can be easily healed as well as have a wide range of special abilities.
Each of the five races featured in Warcraft 3 will have their unique strength and weaknesses.
The Horde:
Enslaved by the alliance for more than decade ago, the Horde has now regrouped under the leadership of the honorable Thrall. While they retain their savage nature, the Orcs have now cast away their demonic allies and their necromantic practices to return to their old ways. Worshipping the power of nature, The Horde is no longer influenced by evil and seek to reclaim the honor they had lost.
Joined by the fearsome Minataurs and Trolls, The Horde holds a powerful presence over Azeroth. No longer evil, Thrall seeks the survival of his clans in the coming war that'll tear Azeroth asunder. Horde units are offensive in nature, relying on the strength of their melee units.
The Night Elves:
The reclusive Night Elves were the first race to awaken in the World of Warcraft. These shadowy, immortal beings were the first to study magic and let it loose throughout the world (nearly ten thousand years before Warcraft One). The Night Elves' reckless use of magic drew the Burning Legion into the world and led to a catastrophic war between the two titanic races. The Night Elves barely managed to banish the Legion from the world, but their wondrous homeland was shattered, half of it engulfed by the ocean. Ever since, the Night Elves refused to use magic for fear that the dreaded Legion would return. The Night Elves closed themselves off from the rest of the world for many millennias. They are nocturnal by nature and their shadowy powers often elicit the same distrust which they have for their mortal neighbors.
The Night Elves army consist of Night Elves, Druids and Ancients, animated trees that have pledges their lives to defending the forest. The Night Elves primary strength is their speed and stealth, able to strike first and strike hard.
The Alliance:
The defeat of the Horde has left the Alliance ruling over Azeroth for more than a decade. Without a common enemy, the one just and true army begun to break apart as corruption filled its ranks. There was longer an enemy to fight, not a cause to fight for, and the humans, elves and dwarves begun to bicker about pity differences. This was the cause of their downfall as Thrall led a mighty revolt, snapping at one nation they another. United, the alliance crumbled at the might of the newly formed Horde.
To make matters worse, Quel'thalas was invaded an unknown enemy who knew no mercy, burning the forests to the ground. The refugees of fled to Lordaeron a second time, and old bonds were forged anew. The alliance now stands as the last hope of humanity against the chaos to come.
Since the second way, the Gnomes have left the alliance, but the Dwarves and Elves still stand firm. Alliance units and the most well equipped, they are armed with the strongest steal and most devastating war machines.
The Scourge:
As Draenor crumbled into the twisting nether, tore apart by uncontrolled magiks, it was rumored the Nur'zhul led a regiment of his most faithful men into the twisting nether. What became of them remained a mystery for years… Similarly the Death Knights vanished from the land, and all thought that both will no longer be heard from forever… They were wrong.
Leading a force of undead more diverse and powerful than ever before, Nur'zhul reinvaded the lands of Azeroth. Mages who practiced the forbidden art of Necromancy were quick to join their ranks, able to at last practice the art they loved without persecution. Now Nur'zhul stands upon the precipice of power, his intent; to turn Azeroth into the land of the dead.
The Scourge consist of dark magicians, who've be traded their souls of the power to control the dead; and of course the dead themselves. In battle, Undead units rely on their overwhelming numbers of lowly dead, backed up by the devasting spells of their dark overlords.

The Burning Legion:
Seeing their grasp upon the Orcish Hordes fail, and that Azeroth is as chaotic as it will ever be, the Burning Legion chose to make their presence known. Banished from Azeroth long ago by the Guardians of Tirisfal, the Demons saw this as a chance to claim revenge. Tearing into Azeroth in blazing infernos, these demons raged through the known lands unchecked, destroying all in their site as they sucked all magic from the lands.
The Burning Legion will be a non-playable race designed for the single player campaign. Their units will consequentially be deadly.

Neutral Creatures:
The invasion of the Legion and the Scourge have left the land of Azeroth in disarray. Forests were burnt and lakes corrupted, forcing their inhabitants to emerge from their secluded hiding places. These people work for themselves, are often trade their services in return for money or cash. Others are openly hostile, attacking anyone not of their own. Meanwhile harmless critters wonder about, prey to the undead or the hungry Orc.
