Warcraft MDX -> MD3 Converter V1.1 Released - Deathwing @ 0:26:48 EST
Many of you may have recalled the V1.0 release of the MDX --> MD3 Convertor for Warcraft 3, which allows users to convert .mdx models that Warcraft 3 uses into .md3 models that's used by Quake 3.

The program was great, with one small glitch, it only supported Graphics Cards with a 32-bit buffer. If you tried the program before, and it crashed when you tried to import a model. That would be why. The glitch is now fixed, and the new version ready for download. Grab it under Mod related Programs in out Warcraft 3 Files.

For those of you who're lost, this program is also excellent for viewing Warcraft 3 Models, including all possible animations. Here's a screenshot of it in action.

FFA Griefers Banned - Deathwing @ 19:00:23 EST
Those of you that play FFAs will be happy to know that Blizzard has taken action against 'FFA Griefers', people who team up prior to starting an FFA game:

In keeping with our policy against griefing in Warcraft III ladder play, we have closed a number of accounts that have been identified as being involved in "pre-teaming" in free-for-all games. Arranging ahead of time to team up in FFA games goes against the spirit of fair play on Battle.net. As with all accounts used to grief other players in ladder play, any accounts that are used to pre-team in ladder FFA games are subject to removal, and the players who are involved risk losing access to ladder games completely.

Sounds good. If you play FFA's a lot, you might want to log in to check your stats. There's a good chance your now ranked!

Poll Results - Deathwing @ 0:25:19 EST
It's a new week, time for a new poll. So without delay, here are the results to the current one:

Which Blizzard Games are you playing the most often now?

Starcraft   140   19%
Warcraft 2   3   0%
Diablo   4   1%
None of Them   95   13%

TOTAL

Speaking of WoW, be sure to head on over to WorldofWar to read their two new articles describing their trip to Blizzard; very lucky indeed...

In Diablo II related news, a bunch of articles have been released over at Diabloii.net, so if you're up for a good read or two...or three...perhaps four, head on over. The warcraft 3 MDX -> MD3 Converter converts Warcraft 3 Models that can be extracted from Warcraft 3 using an MPQ Viewer into .md3 files that are used in Quack 3. Even if you're not into creating your own models, it can be useful for just checking out the animations of various units.

Undead Mission 7: Part 3 Walkthrough - Deathwing @ 23:51:03 EST
Is one was asked which level in the whole Frozen Throne campaign was most unique... one would have to vote for the third part of the second to last chapter. Here, the level involves one unit, lots of enemies to run past, and lots of dongeon deathtraps. In fact, it's a lot more remniscent of a 3D platform game.

With all that said, how to you pass it? When should you discharge your mana at enemy, when do you fight, and when do you simply flee from? Who do you kill to get the good items, and how do you avoid traps? Find out"

We'll have the walkthrough of the final mission up soon!

Race to 99 - Spider @ 4:37:28 EST
The race to hit level 99 on ladder is over. A paladin by the name of Wuschelto on the European realm has taken the number one spot. There are suspicions that he used an experience hack, but that remains to be proven. It is somewhat suspicious that he hasn't gained the Patriarch title yet however. Hardcore ladder remains, with a number of lvl 98s, so given time that race too, will be over.

Warcraft 3... Done Quick - Deathwing @ 17:36:36 EST
So... how fast do you think Warcraft 3 can be completely in, tutorial included? On reviews, they say 40 hours Gameplay time... but skilled players, maybe 10, maybe 8 After all, 8 hours will only give you 15 minutes per mission.

Well... guess again, Chib's competition to create the quickest way of completing the campaign has resulted in... an amazing.. 4 hours and 12 minutes! That's an incredible average of 7.9 minutes per mission, which is only so high because certain defense serious require you to be there for a set amount of time.

Check out how they did it, and download their replays here.

Map of the Week: Strategic Combat - Deathwing @ 3:59:36 EST
Today's a day for another scenerio, one that you can really have fun playing with a group of friends.

In Strategic Combat, players warp to the future, and fight using all the technology a century later will offer, from plasma rifles to flamethrowers to the good old tactical nuke. The war is for waygates, with Stargate music in the background (at least, i think that's what it is!)

Great fun, great action, and lots more explosions than regular WarCraft. Go download it here.

Got a map? Send it into our Map Archive!

Artwork! - Spider @ 2:33:02 EST
Artwork strike your fancy? Well, check out the combined works of Infoceptor's talented artists! Thanks to Depth_Charge for the sketch, and Ogre Crossing for coloring it in. Very nice work in my opinion; keep it up! (Sorry for the delayed post guys) Be sure to post your comments in their thread, where you can also grab the full sized copy!

If you're interested in more artwork, be sure to check out wiLLY-wOnKA's sketches of a serpent-like creature, and Wild-2k's sketch of a dragon; although still incomplete, it looks great!

Swing by the Art forum often to get regular updates on what people are up to these days.

A couple things going on over at War3.com, for one, they are holding an Art contest. If you'd like to participate, head over to their forum topic about it, and post whatever questions you may have. They'll be sponsoring more contests in the future, so be sure to keep yourself posted if this is something that you're interested in.

They are also looking for World of WarCraft editorialists. If you're at all interested in working for them, check it out here, and apply. Best of luck to all who enter the contest, and apply for the job!

Interviews, columns...etc. - Spider @ 1:04:56 EST
If you've been to Diabloii.net at all, you'll know that they occasionally release columns and interviews. Well, that time has come again, and this time Chris Marks (author of said column) has released an interview he had with Bill Roper, now an ex-Blizzard employee. He talks about what it was like working for Blizzard, and what got him into the whole idea in the first place. It's an interesting read, so head over there and check it out.

They have also posted up a guest article by MongoJerry about Irene the Infirm; a hardcore sorceress who is trecking through the game with absolutely nothing. You can check out the second part of the story here. If you haven't had a chance to read it at all yet, check out the Part I.

Things aren't looking too good for Blizzard at the moment...

NEWS FOR Saturday, January 17, 2004

New Poll - Deathwing @ 14:30:24 EST
In an effort to make our content relevant, we survey again on your most popular Blizzard game. Has the interest in Warcraft 3 waned with the delay of V1.13? Do many still play Starcraft? Has Diablo II gained a much larger fanbase with the new patch? We ask you in this week's poll.

Poll Results - Deathwing @ 14:27:37 EST
With the start of a new week, it's time for a new poll. So without delay, here are the results to the one last week:

With the release of Warcraft 3 V1.14, which race do you think has the upper hand?
Humans   130   28%
Orcs   40   9%
Undead   49   11%
Night Elves   69   15%
It's Balanced   175   38%

TOTAL

463

100 %
..

Not bad, it looks like despite all the disagreements, a good proportion of people considered the game balanced, in fact, a high proportion than any such vote thus far. Yet, it's still clear that nothing is perfect, and most consider 'slow' to be too much of an early advantage for humans.

Gamespy has published the first part of their huge 3 part preview for World of Warcraft. if you're excited about the game, you should definitely go read it.

The first episode of the series deals with how Blizzard plans to address all the problems that plague other MMORPGs. Key information include:

  • To get the most powerful weapons, players will need to complete quests, therefore nullifying item farming.
  • Like Diablo 2, Quest Rewards are muilt-dropped, encouraging people to work together to complete quests.
  • There are three options of sharing items within a group, including round robin, which ensures each players and his/her fair share.
  • World of Warcraft will be heavily quest focused, so that as players complete quests, NPCs regard them with higher esteem. There's a sense of progressions.
  • So far, Blizzard has designed over 1400 quests
  • Quests are level specific, and only doable once, eliminating quest farming. In additions, quests will help distribute players based on their skill levels.

There you go!

Well, another month, and another patch has been released for Warcraft 3. Version 1.14 helped fix many of the abusive introduced in the patch before, making it now possible to get a fairly accurate judgement on which race came on top. So... which is race has now got the unfair advantage? You decide this week.

Poll Results - Deathwing @ 0:06:53 EST
It's a new week, time for a new poll. Without delay, here are the results to the current one:

What did you think of the last two acts of the Orc Campaign in Frozen Throne?
Awesome!   121   19%
Good   169   26%
Okay   92   14%
Poor   23   4%
Awful   15   2%
Never Tried Them   227   35%

TOTAL

647

100 %

WoW Alpha Leak - Deathwing @ 17:38:13 EST
Directly from Blizzard:

As many of you know, we are currently conducting an internal Alpha test for World of Warcraft. Our goal for this Alpha test is to provide the best possible experience for players when the Beta launches in early 2004.

In order to accelerate the testing process, we recently allowed a small group of external testers to play the game. During this process, a collection of files was leaked to the Internet. While these files contain alpha content from the game, they are not fully playable and therefore do not convey the experience that World of Warcraft will provide when it is released.

We are currently investigating this matter and will take serious action against those involved.

New Wallpaper - Deathwing @ 23:33:39 EST
Killst4r has completeled yet another work of art, vying for your attention and of course, Desktop. In fact, releasing this wallpaper is kind of cruel, as you'll now have to choose bettween it and the last one the same author has made.

Featuring excellent color, stunning atmosphere, and even a Dark Templar shrouded in mist, this wallpaper demands your attention:

A brilliant artist yourself, got a piece of art that'll challenge those being published? We'd love to see your work!

New Poll - Deathwing @ 6:30:08 EST
It has been over a fortnight since the release of the second and third acts of the Orc Campaign for the Frozen Throne. Now that you’ve had a good amount of time to try it, it’s time for some feedback. Were these levels on par with those of usual Blizzard quality? Tell us in this week’s poll!

Poll Results - Deathwing @ 6:29:18 EST

It’s the start of a new week, and time for a new poll. Without delay, here are the results of the current one:

What is the Processor Speed of your Computer?
0 - 0.5 Ghz   44   5%
0.5 - 1.0 Ghz   126   14%
1.0 - 1.5 Ghz   127   14%
1.5 - 2.0 Ghz   226   25%
2.0 - 2.5 Ghz   195   22%
2.5 - 3.0 Ghz   99   11%
3.0+ Ghz    45   5%
Dunno   36   4%

TOTAL

898

100 %
..

It looks like the average viewer has a 2 Ghz machine at the moment, not too shabby, and it seems fair to say that Blizzard’s next release should run on most of your computers. World of Warcraft is designed to run at a decent rate on a 1 Ghz machine… if you have anything lower, you may wish to consider upgrading sometime in the near future!
