Sometime after the episode with Raynor and Ally, Duran began to think about his project, now he had an enemy, someone to contend with, they were both after the same woman, though for very different reasons. His first priority was to issue all men under his command, ID Tags so he could know who was in his Army. Next order of business was top make a bullet proof vest; he didn't think Raynor would be as dumb as to try that again, but better safe that sorry.
As Duran was walking down the halls toward R&D, he past many of his recruits, who immediately stood at attention. He could see many drops of sweat on all of their cheeks. Why were they afraid of him? Was he really that frightening? Duran thought he had chosen a handsome body for the job. Or was it that only a mad man would choose to take on this grand project?
He inserted his keycard in the door and it opened.
"Ahhh, Good morning Lieutenant!" came the old crusty voice of the head The R&D, Dr. Beakmen.
"Good Morning Doctor." Duran replied, in what he thought of as a cheerful tone of voice. "Is the vest done yet?"
"Actually, your timing is impeccable, we just finished testing it."
"So. Let me see."
"Ha! Step over here my boy!"
Duran followed Dr. Beakmen over to the firing range, Duran was anxious to see what it was capable of. They arrived at the training grounds.
"Computer, Load setting 25 please." Dr. Beakmen asked.
Dr. Beakmen treated everything with respect, as if it were human, this astonished Duran.
The Area lit up, it grew trees, flowers, a beautiful setting seemed to just pop out of the ground. Duran wondered why the doctor had picked such a setting.
"Run Test # 236 backstroke ought" Dr. Beakmen said into the computer.
A stuffed dummy with chain mail on rose out of the floor.
A man with a rack of weapon came by, Beakmen specifically pick out a few.
"Alright Lieutenant," he said, "Watch this."
Beakmen took a bazooka on his shoulder. WHAM! A shot flew out of the bazooka; it nearly made the doctor fell over.
He looked over at the dummy, the dummy was scorched but otherwise OK. Duran walked over to it and took off the chain mail; he looked at it, turned it over. He put it on.
"A perfect fit doc." Duran said
"OF course it is, Lieutenant, we used your exact measurements to make the vest."
"I thank you Doctor. Another success."
"I am pleased you like it."
"Good Day, Dr. Beakmen."
Duran walked out of R&D. He wanted to test out his new Armor. He walked into the wide-open space.
"Please enter specifications." Came the voice of the computer
"Installation Terrain, 2 Protoss Archons." Replied Duran
"Specifications accepted."
2 archons appeared out of thin air before him, he took up his newly made canister rifle.
"Arrgh!"
He felt a sudden pain in his side. He looked down to see his wound flowing openly, blood splashing out onto the ground.
"Exit program, computer, send transmission."
The two archons vanished as mysteriously as they appeared,
"Please specify name." Came the dull voice of the computer
"Alyssa.. Alyssa." He stumbled.
What was her last name? He had never asked.
His felt sleepy, his eyes began to close, and he fell to the ground.
Duran woke with a feeling on his head. He became aware of his surroundings. He was in his room, on the floor, In Ally's Arms.
"Ally. Ally?" He moaned
Her eyes lit up at the sound of his voice.
"Oh your alright! Thank God!" She said, tears in her eyes
"Wha. What happened?" Duran asked confused.
"Some troops found you in the training room, you were unconscious, and your wound was bleeding openly." She replied in a sad tone of voice. It appeared she had something else on her mind.
"Is there something else?" Duran asked after a time of waiting.
"Well. When we found you we took you back to the Med Lab so we could study you further. We found your wound was poisoned."
Duran's eyes widened
"Is there a cure?" He asked searching for a way out of his problem
"We don't have one." She replied gloomily "But, if we can infiltrate That Raynor Character's Facility we might be able to find an antidote. It's a long shot but it just might work."
"I see. Well I figured Raynor wouldn't let me get away that -"
Ally interrupted him.
"I volunteered to lead the squad."
"WHAT! I can't have you in that kind of Danger!" Duran yelled
"No! I want to help!" She pleaded
"But..." Duran stopped. Why did he care if she led the attack or not? Had he grown attached to her?
