Fortress Kalai (Part 1)

"Sir, we have incoming!"

"Hold your position, we have to keep them at bay until more security arrives!" Shouted the Commander as more Zerglings charged at them, running into their new explosive Gauss Shells.
"Sir, our reinforcements need reinforcements in sector eight!"

"Damn it! Warren, tell command to detonate the reactor core if things get too messy! We can't let the Zerg in on these weapons experiments!"

Warren tapped his com-unit, as Zerglings suddenly dropped down from the vents. Warren screamed as his gut was ripped open, and his com-unit exploded.

"Sir, Warren's been...." Another marine was slashed open by the barrage of Zerglings. The security team killed the two Zerglings who came from the vents, and finally reached the elevator.

"We need to get to the reactor core! It's the our only chance of killing these things! There's a hangar bay on that level, so we might make it!"

The door closed as the five marines that weren't killed headed down for the sub-level five.

"How do we know there ain't Zerg in the sub-levels? They might have came in through one of the vent shafts underground the come up on the surface!" Commander Ryker nodded, checking the ammo gauge on his rifle.

"Fifty rounds." He murmured. He had no clips left from the recent skirmish with Zerglings, so he'd have to switch to double-shot bursts to conserve ammo.

"Sir, there's only one com-unit on sub-five, and it's out of the way. We can either go straight to the core with five men and limited ammo, or take the time to get more help.... And ammo, what'll be, Commander?"

It was like a game of Advanced Sub-Levels and Mutalisks.

Ryker looked at the tattoo on his sleeve which read "Mutalisklance", the name of a book series based on ASL&M.

"Jenson, you know how to use coms. We're going to head for the com center. Jenson will stay in the middle, Bobsonand Vasquez in the rear, with Geffer and me at the front. Let's move!"

"You've gotta be kidding me...." General Gordon stared at the com-screen, Zerglings picking off his marines.

"As you can see, the transmission cut-off when the Zerglings dropped out of the vents. The com-officer didn't give us anything, but we can make out the commander talking. If he's alive, he's probably heading for sub-five. The reactor core."

The General looked at the screen, then looked at the lieutenant.

"I know Ryker. He'll probably blow the whole damn thing up. I want half our security holding the swarms off, the other half head down to sub-five. We can't be too sure that Ryker's alive."

The Lieutenant nodded and sat back down at her com-station, viewing the screens of struggling
