Fortress Kalai (Part 2)

All the marines in the group had their visors down, and switched to infra-red. If the Zerg had one major weakness, it was their extreme vulnerability to heat-seeking technology. Wraith missiles always hit their target, thanks to the extremely warm blood of the Zerg.

"Any readings yet, Jenson?" Ryder said as sweat trickled down his face.

"No, sir." Replied the Private.

"All right, stay sharp. I've been in situations like this, those Zerg know where we are."

The marines continued down the dark, damp corridors of sub-five, ever watchful for the threat of Zerglings.

*********

"Still no sign of Ryker's men. Also, security doors have been shut and ventilation shafts sealed as well as we can get 'em. Our men are on full alert, and Harad's men are almost at sub-five, they're seeing Zerg everywhere and have lost three men." The marine stood to attention and saluted the general.

"At ease. I want to be kept up-to-date on everything that goes on in this station. Once Harad finds the core, tell him to set thirty-minute charges."

The marine nodded and headed back to the garrison.

*********

"Stop shooting you a**hole! Stop! Stop! Stop! I order you!"

But it was too late, Vasquez had wasted all his ammo on a bunch of rats that had crawled up the wall.

"You sunnuvabi***! I swear to f***ing god!! Now we're all gonna die 'cuz all those f***ing Zerglings heard you! Da**it!"

Ryker whacked Bobson, "At ease, Private! Vasquez, remind me to demote your sorry a** if you still have one by the time we're done. You still have a pistol, right?"

Vasquez nodded and pulled out his Colt .45, "Yes, sir."

"Good, let's get moving. We still have a long way to go."

The long, leaky-pipe filled corridors were like a maze. They carried on, but not after finding a pile of dead marine bodies. They now had the ammo they needed, and were close to the fork, which would lead them to either the COM or the reactor.

"I say we should still notify the general." Said Geffer.

"What if they're dead, ever think of that! What if we're the only ones-"

"It's Ryker! They're alive! Hey Vasquez, don't ya think you'd be more affective with your Gauss Rifle?"

Vasquez frowned and spoke some comment in an ancient, near-forgotten language called Spanish. "Harad. How are things doing in the rest of the fort?"

Harad frowned. "Not so good, last I heard. Marines are getting picked off and we don't have a lot of time to set the charges." Harad threw Vasquez a spare rifle. "Let's head for the reactor. We'll head for the reactor. You guys go ahead of us and try to fix the turbolift. Here's a com-link so you can talk to Gordon." Harad threw Ryker a com-link.

"Stay sharp, we met some Zerglings exiting the turbolift. They broke the damn thing, and it was the only working one, too!"

Geffer hung his head and shook it back and forth, "Why didn't I just get good grades and go to the academy?"

"Sir, the vents!" Shouted a private.

"I see 'em! All men, fire! Fire!"

The seven marines blasted the vents wildly, watching Zerglings scream and blood dripping down from the vents above them.

"Sir, I hear something.. Aaaarrggghhhhh!!!!!" The marine screamed as a Zergling came up from the floor tiles and ripped the armor to pieces.

"Sir, we have more of 'em com…." Another marine was slaughtered.

A marine swiveled his Gauss-Rifle behind him, splattering Zergling blood all over the floor before having his visor ripped open and a claw jammed into his face.

The General stared as his marines were slaughtered by the masses of Zerg pouring into the station.

"Shall I send a distress beacon, sir?"

General Gordon took out his pistol, "Do whatever you want." His last words before he silently put the pistol in his mouth and pulled the trigger....

The Lieutenant just stared, turning around to find Zerg filling the halls three floors below them. She tapped the com-link, "All personnel evacuate! I repeat, all personnel evacuate Fortress Kalai!"

************

"Sir, did you hear that!?" Shouted Jenson.

"Yeah. Let's get to the reactor. We don't have much time before more Zerg arrive."

The marines, now 12 of them since they met up with Harad, walked silently down the dark halls of sub-five as they had been doing for the past few hours.

Geffer saw a long drop of water hang from the ceiling, to drip onto the ground..

"That didn't come from pipes.. We have Hydras!!!!!"

Hydralisks dropped down from the ceiling, Geffer screamed and set his pistol to rapid-fire.....
