Conquest - Chapter 1

Chapter 1 - Problems Everywhere

The wax on the tall candle melted slowly under the heat of the flame, a flame that allowed Tochen to view his master plan, a plan that if successful, would change the fate of Azeroth forever. On this wide piece of paper was a map of the world, Azeroth, Lordaeron, Khaz Modan.. Each of them bickers with each other since the end of the Orcish invasion. Whispers among peasants of civil war were becoming more frequent, as well. The alliance of nations was over, and the only way to prevent the collapse of society was an empire.

"Sire, the Renegades are on the move again. How many troops shall we dispatch?" Asked Commander Greyhault.

"Most of our shock troops. I want our archers to stay ready in the trees and on the walls should the Renegades send troops here, thinking we have abandoned defense in favor of hunting them with all we have."

The Commander nodded and clicked his heels together, then clanked out of the room with his great steel protection.

"Those damn Renegades. No such thing would happen under Llane's rule. He would probably have the Dwarves and Humans rejoicing every day under a single banner if not for those bloody Hordes." Shouted Magistrate Collins, the man in charge of the town of Northshire.

His accomplice, Elliot, nodded. "I agree. I don't trust the recent rise in Dwarven merchants in Azeroth. There's no telling if they might be planning to explode our whole town!"

"Yes. We shall have to send more trained men to the trade routes for customs, but then we should have to risk not having the men to fight back against the Renegades. The council refuses to send us more fully-trained troops, they think the Renegades are no threat, not to mention the major decline of the Azeroth military population."

Elliot gave another acknowledging nod. "So what are we going to do? I think it's clear that Azeroth is no longer a great nation of any sort. I think we should break away!"

The Magistrate got up, and simply left. Elliot just watched, puzzled at what he was thinking.

Tochen's chamber was now the place of the first meeting of the Empire. For now, only three people were under his command. This would soon change.

"My advisor would certainly like this proposal, Master Tochen. He has been doing nothing but nagging me about leaving Azeroth to become an independent city, but your Empire would certainly offer more military presence for us. I accept. As of tomorrow, Southshire will be a member of your Empire."

Tochen smiled, "We're not an Empire yet. An Empire requires that we pursue other nations forcefully into joining… It is better that way. Our men will gain valuable field experience for foreign invaders. My goal is.... Conquest."

The Magistrate nodded and stepped out of the chamber.

"Now, General Khen, we shall discuss the matters of your troops coming officially under my command. What are the numbers?"

"Six-thousand footmen, twenty-five thousand knights, and one-thousand archers. More than enough to conquer the lands to the immediate south-west." Khen Replied

"Very good, you are to strike Kathol by dawn three days from now. Any more time and we'll be found out, and this Empire will fail." Tochen hoped he was making himself clear.

"Of course, Master Tochen. Kathol will be ours... Fully intact... By noon tomorrow."

Tochen smiled brightly and saluted the General. "Now, General Garnet. Are your mangonels and trebuchets ready for transport to Kathol?"

"Indeed, they are, Master Tochen. The walls of Kathol will be no more by the time Khen arrives."

"I should hope so, for your sake..." Tochen had an afterthought, "…and mine."
