Eye of Khalim:

Recommended Level: 20-23
Quest Given By: Cain
Location: Spider Forest
Difficulty: Normal
Reward: None
Main Objectives: Find Khalim’s Eye

Introduction:
’Khalim’s Will,’ while being the third quest of Act III, should actually be attempted before the second quest. It spans nearly the whole of Act III much like the quest, ‘Horadric Staff,’ in Act II and hence will intertwine with a number of other missions. This short walkthrough will guide you to Khalim’s Eye.

Once you’ve completed the Golden Bird, return to Cain to get the quest. Once again mercenaries will be helpful, as will poison resistance and antidote potions.

To Find The Spider Cavern:
A Necromancer stands back to aid his minions with spells.

The Spider Cavern is located somewhere with Spider Forest, the first area of Act III. Simply explore the area by moving upstream. There will be openings in the thick jungle on either side, make sure to explore each of them. One of these openings will contain the Waypoint to Spider Forest as well as non quest dungeon, ‘Arachnid’s Lair.” The other will contain the entrance to ‘Spider Cavern.’ The monsters here are exactly the same as those in the previous mission, so refer to it for killing the monsters.

Feel free to explore ‘Arachnid’s Lair’ if you wish, its a one level dungeon that looks like and hosts the exact same monsters as Spider Cavern, allowing you to prepare yourself and get experience. Keep moving upstream, and you’ll find another break in the Jungle; this will lead you to the Spider Cavern.

Exploring the Spider Cavern:
A Sorceress casts Nova to escape from her dark predicament.

The Spider Cavern hosts a two types of Giant Spiders inside, Flame Spiders and Poison Spinners. Both are quite fast, and will engage you in an instant. Flame Spiders are resistant to fire while Poison Spiders attack with poison (non too serious though). They are fairly strong in combat, so it’s a good idea for mages to avoid being surrounded. Fighters, however, will have no problem.

The Cavern itself is a one level dungeon of moderate size. Khalim’s eye will be located in the ‘glowing chest’ of this dungeon. A dozen spiders and a unique flame spider, ‘Sszark the Burning’, guards it.

‘Sszark the Burning’ resists fire, is extra strong and cursed. The best way to tackle such a beast is with lightning or cold fired from afar. He’ll take a decent number of hits, but shouldn’t prove to be a huge problem. It’s best to lead out his minions first, so that you can deal with the boss alone.

Once Sszark is dead, go back town and Talk to Cain. The sage will be overjoyed at your new prize, but you still have three more things to find. Now your ready to start Quest II.

Class Specific Tips:

Blood Golems remain as your best bet in the Spider Cavern. Make sure the Golem is already engaged before attacking the spiders yourself. The amount of life the Golem gives you is more than enough to counteract any poison damage you receive. Use Bone Spear and Iron maiden to aid your minions. When fighting Sszark, curse him with Iron Maiden and let your Golem and Bone Magi do the work.

Sszark the Burning may not be burning much longer… Glacial Spike will sure cool him off.

Due to the spider's speed, you’ll often find yourself surrounded. Beware, as they can easily disrupt your spells. The best way to counter the situation would be a Glacial Spike followed by Nova. When engaging spiders from afar, you’ll only need Glacial Spike. A mercenary that specializes in Cold is also very useful here, sparing you from casting Glacial Spikes.

When you engage Sszark, use Nova to kill his minions, then attack the hero with Glacial Spike. As long as he remains chilled, he’ll be too slow to reach you. Alternatively you may cast Blaze and let the whole coven of spiders chase you through the cavern till they’re toast.

Charge into the fray, and either use Leap attack or Howl whenever you’re surrounded. While you should be concentrating most of your skill points on Combat Masteries, Shout and Battle Cry can also be useful here.

The Paladin will have an easy time in the cavern with its small rooms and tight corridors. Keep Zeal or Vengeance as your primary attack, and Thorns as your Aura. Once you reach the "Eye Chest" room, keep Zeal as primary attack, and Thorns as Aura, take out the minions first, then take out Szark.

If you’re a bow Amazon, it’ll be best here to avoid getting surrounded. Ice arrows are excellent for this, and slowing the front Spider will instantly hinder the rest. Javelin Amazons preferred ‘spell’ here is the Lightning Bolt, followed by Impale.
