Lam Esen’s Tome:

Recommended Level: 21-25
Quest Given By: Cain
Location: Kurast Bazaar
Difficulty: Moderately Hard
Reward: +5 Attribute Points, Lower Prices
Main Objectives: Retrieve Lam Esen’s Tomb

Introduction:
This walkthrough is set on the basis that you have already retrieved the Brain of Khalim, and have found the waypoint in the Flayer Jungle. Resistance to any elemental attack here will be conductive to long life… If your are level 23 or lower, it is suggested that you first go back to Spider Forest and explore Great Marsh before you embark on this quest. While Great Marsh doesn’t lead anywhere, it offers two glowing chests of magical items and whole heap of experience.

To Reach the Kurast:
A Necromancer let’s his Blood Golem take damage as he stands back to cast spells.

Once you’re ready, go back to Flayer Jungle and explore upstream. You’ll still be facing the Flayers and Soul Killers as before, so use the same tactics to kill them as with the previous walkthrough. The area is large, but you will eventually reach Lower Kurast.

Thrashers, deadly variations of the Thorned Hulk, guard the Gate of Kurast. Leading the team is Stormtree, who’s not only tough, but also lightning enchanted and slightly faster than his brethren. Retreat slightly so that Stormtree, being faster, gets separated from his minions so you can tackle him alone. It’s best to use, but if that’s not possible, retreat to a narrow bridge so that you can fight them one at a time. Once they’re defeated, you can proceed to lower Kurast.

Navigating Kurast:
A Sorceress Unleashes a deadly Nova, ending the life of many Faithfuls

The city of Kurast is exceptionally large, split into three separate areas, lower Kurast, Kurast Bazaar and Upper Kurast. Once you’re in lower Kurast, be sure to search the whole place, many of the abandoned cottages will have chests that hold magic items. In addition, you’ll be able to find a waypoint somewhere in this part of the city.

You’ll be glad to know that you’re no longer fighting Flayers, instead Tree Lurkers (Tougher Sand Leapers), Faithful, Doom Apes (Tougher Jungle Hunters, Hell Buzzards (Powerful Vulture Demons) and Zakarumites populate the place. The Faithful and Zakarumites are both melee warriors of melee speed and will prove no problem. Hell Buzzards, Doom Apes and Tree Lurkers can be killed like their counterparts. Simply make sure you have plenty of running space and not get stuck in rooms and you’ll have no problems.

Once the place is explored, proceed to Kurast Bazaar. Now launch a portal back to town to talk to Alkor. Once you’ve activated the quest, return to Kurast Bazaar to finish it.

The Sorceress Rains icy death upon her enemies with Blizzard

You’ll be fighting more Faithful, Zakarumites and Thrashers as well as the possibility of Hell Swarms (Tougher Black Locusts). Use previous methods for defeating them as you search for the waypoint to the Bazaar. Ignore the entrances to the sewer if you find it, the quest should be done later.

Retrieving the Tomb:
While the Tomb you need is said to be in one of the temples at Kurast Bazaar, it is always located in The Ruined Temple. You’ll be able to find its entrance in one of the large stone structures in Bazaar. Finding the right structure is easy, it’s the one guarded by tons of monsters and a bunch of deadly mages, the Sextons.

The Sextons have three spells at their disposal, Blizzard, Lightning Bolt and Teleportation. Guarding the Ruined Temple will be a dozen of these guys with either a few champions or one hero sextant. Fighters should seek to engage in melee combat as soon as possible, while mages may choose to attack from range. Whatever the case, be sure to side-step whenever you hear the sound of lightning, this will allow you dodge most of their missiles. Details on defeating these guys are in our character tips.

Cold Spells prove to be deadly against the Flesh Hunters, who are shattered in by its touch.

Once the Sextons are dead, proceed into the Ruined Temple. The Ruined Temple is a very small dungeon populated by tough monsters, Wailing Beasts (Tougher Gargantuan Beasts), Flesh Hunters (Tougher Corrupted Rogues) and Night Lords (Tougher Ghoul Lords). The hero here is ‘Battle Maid Sarina’.

While Sarina and her minions are tough, you’ll have no problem as long as you don’t charge into the chamber. Instead lead them out to the doorway, where you can face them one on one. Watch for the Night Lords, these guys can cast Meteor, dealing heavy damage. However it takes a while for the spell to land, so as soon as you see a fiery flicker underneath you, move!

Once all the monsters are dead, take Lam Esen’s tomb. Cast a portal and talk Alkor. Not only will he get all the merchants to sale their staff to you at a cheaper price, but you’ll also get 5 free attributes points to distribute.

Class Specific Tips:

When you face the Sextons, make sure to let your minions take the punishment. While they launch their Blizzard’s and Lightning Bolts at your minions, curse them with Amplify Damage. Bone Mage also does a great job here in slowing them down with cold. Use Bone Spear to finish the mages off. Curse all other monsters with Amplify Damage, and destroy them with Corpse Explosion.

Once inside the ruined temple, you’ll want to have your minions between you and Battlemaid Sarina. While they are clustered at the doorway, casts amplify damage and kill one of them with Bone Spear. The rest will be corpse bait.

Blizzard is a nice spell to use against clumps of enemies. While it doesn’t do as much damage as Thunderstorm, it slows your foes, allowing you to stay clear of danger.

Most of Swarms and Melee monsters here are easy to defeat with Glacial Spike, however the Sextons are tougher. The best way to kill these guys is to shower them with Blizzard, followed by freezing Glacial Spikes. You’ll need plenty of mana and quick reflexes to dodge their lightning bolts. Shatter their frozen forms with your staff.

When facing the Battlemaid and her minions, use Glacial Spike on the Night Lords and kill them with your staff. Then take on the Flesh Hunters with Glacial Spike. As long you have them frozen, they won’t be able to reach you.

Charge into the fray and howl, sending the lesser monsters running. Use Leap Attack to kill the Sextons before they can deal any significant damage. While you’re in the air, you’ll be invincible to their spells. When you are in the Ruined Temple, simply engage the battle maids at the doorway. When they are against you one on one, they’ll stand no chance.

Charge in with Zeal as primary attack and Thorns as your Aura. Fire Resistance Aura works well against the Shaman’s Inferno, so keep both Auras on hotkeys. When you arrive at the "Brain Chest" room, keep the Fire Resistance Aura on if you have a few points in it. Use Vengeance or Sacrifice, depending on which works best for you, as your primary attack. Take out the Minions first, then, carefully attack the Witch Doctor. Make sure your belt is full of Health Potions when taking them out, and a few Mana Potions are in your inventory.

When facing the Sextons, kill them quickly with Exploding Arrows. Make sure to strife whenever then send a lightning bolt or a Blizzard your way. Javelin Amazons may have more difficulty here, as the Sextons resist Lightning. Decoy is also a perfect skill here to draw away enemy fire.

When taking on the Battlemaids, use Exploding Arrows to take out the Flesh Hunters. When all of Sarina’s minions are dead, slow the boss with Ice arrows and she won’t be able to reach you at all.
