The Five Seals:

Recommended Level: 25-29
Quest Given By: Tyrael
Location: The Chaos Sanctuary
Difficulty: Very Hard
Reward: None
Main Objectives: Unlock the Five Seals

Introduction:
With the other two quests completed, it is time to turn your attention to the final battle against Diablo. The Lord of Terror resides in the Chaos Sanctuary, and is protected by five seals. Before you can face him, you must first battle through the River of Flame and unlock each of the five seals. Resistances to any type of elemental attack are highly valuable here.

To Reach the Chaos Sanctuary:
Take the waypoint back to the River of Flame and proceed onwards past the angel, Hadriel. He’ll only allow you to pass if you have destroyed Mephisto’s soulstone (see previous mission). It will not take long before you reach a series of catwalks.

There are significantly more monsters in the final quest, and they often reside in large groups.

While Urdas, Grotesque and other monsters you fought previously guard the catwalks, you’ll also meet up with the deadliest monster in Diablo 2, the Oblivion Knights. Of the Doom Knight class, these are mages who have a wide range of curses in their disposal. In addition to their elemental attacks, they can also launch Bone Spirits. They are partially resistant to all elemental attacks and able to deal up to a hundred damage per hit. They are deadly, especially when behind other monsters.

Engage the Oblivion Knights only after you have killed all the monsters that are outside their radius of awareness. Once you charge at these horrors, they’ll typically slow you with decrypitify before launching other attacks. Do your best to avoid their magic and seek to engage in melee combat. Slowly navigate through the catwalks, the Chaos Sanctuary is on the other side.

Siege of Chaos Sanctuary:
Navigate through the Chaos sanctuary cautiously. There is a good chance that you make get overwhelemed.

The Chaos sanctuary hosts almost identical monsters as the River of flame, featuring Oblivion and Doom Knights, Storm Casters (Tougher Stranglers), Venom and Pit Lords. Fight them as you did in the River Flame, although keep in mind that they now tend to come in larger groups.

This area is reasonably large, and is split into the inner and outer sanctuary. Battle through the outer sanctuary cautiously. You’ll know that you’ve reached the inner sanctuary when you see a giant pentagram on the floor. This is where you’ll fight Diablo, but you’ll need to unlock all five seals before he appears.

The five seals are located on the three sides on the pentagram. You’ll find two seals to the top left; two seals to the bottom right; and the final seal to the top right. When each set of seals is unlocked, you’ll face a unique monster and all of his minions. There are three such uniques to fight before Diablo is finally released. We’ve shown map here for easy navigation:

Seals A and B:
The Grand Vizier of Chaos and his minions are deadly. Here a Sorceress destroys the latter with Blizzard.

Proceed to the top left and dispatch the swarms of monsters you meet. You may want to keep a town portal as backup in case you die. It’s only a short walk before you find the two seals. Before unlocking them, prepare yourself for a tough fight. Unlock the inner seal before the outer one, otherwise you may find yourself trapped by the appearing monsters.

The Grand Vizier of Chaos (Extra Strong, Fire Enchanted) and a dozen Storm Riders will appear once both seals are open. Make sure you are not trapped in the corner, and kill him and his minions. Cold attacks will work well here.

Seals C and D:
The Infector of Souls is no easy prey. A Necromancer lets his minions to the work as he stays in relative safety.

Now make your way towards the bottom left, dispatching the swarm of monsters that block your way. As before, unseal the inner seal before the outer one to avoid getting trapped. Fire resistance will help your next battle. This time you’ll face Infector of Souls (Extra Fast, Spectral Hit) and his band of Venom Lords.

Launch any area of effect spells at the Venom Lords before you retreat back to the Pentagram. The Infector of Souls will be separated from his minions due to his extra speed. Kill the Infector first before you face the rest of his guys.

Seal E:
The final seal is the most difficult, so make sure you have everything prepared before you open it. Here, you’ll face Lord De Seis (Extra Fast, Thieving, Aura Enchanted) and his army of Oblivion Knights. As soon as they appear, rain down whatever spells you can and get the hell out of that corridor.

Oblivion Knights are deadly, it is best to engage them in melee while you still can.

Attempt to pick off the Oblivion Knights at each corner, where they won’t be able to use their elemental attacks effectively. Lord De Seis himself is a nuisance, and can ‘steal’ your potions with each hit (It causes a potion in your possession to drop on the ground). Dodge his attacks by continual movement, and retreat whenever more than half a dozen Oblivion Knights can attack you. You may need to repeat this quite a bit before you kill them all.

To Face Diablo:
Once Lord De Seis hits the ground, Diablo will appear in the central pentagram. Launch a portal and get prepared, we’ll cover the details on exactly how to defeat this guy in our next walkthrough.

Character Tips:

As with before, use a Blood Golem throughout this quest. Cast Amplify Damage when you outnumber them and Iron Maiden when they outnumber you

Attack the Infector of Souls and the Grand Vazier of Chaos via Iron Maiden and Corpse Explosion. Attract is a good method in destroying their minions. If you are level 30, a fire Golem is good against the Infector. When you engage the Grand Vizier, make sure your golem takes the brunt of the damage. Cast Amplify Damage followed by Bone Spear at a chosen Oblivion Knight. Kill the rest with his corpse.

Blizzard has the capacity to do serious damage. It is one of the most effective ways to reduce the guardians into icy chunks.

Glacial Spike is good here as a primary spell, although you’ll need to support it with Blizzard if you wish to deal any serious damage. Thunder Storm is also a great supporting spell. Use Blaze whenever outgunned, but keep in mind that the Venom Lords are immune to fire.

Whenever you fight the uniques that guard the seals, launch half a dozen Blizzard’s before you flee for your life. This in itself is probably enough to destroy all of the minions. Kill The Grand Vizier and the Infector with Glacial Spike and Static Field. Freeze spells are also your best hope against the Oblivion Knights. As long as only two can shoot you at once, you won’t have a problem. Otherwise, you’ll need to retreat.

Hack and Slash your way through the Chaos Sanctuary. If you have a weapon that steals mana, keep Double Swing as your primary attack. Whirlwind is also extremely powerful, if you’ve reached level 30.

When you engage the Infector and the Grand Vizier, use Shout to boost your defence and Battlecry to weaken theirs, then follow-up with a series of hacks and slashes. Lord De Seis is more difficult, and you might want to retreat to face each Oblivion Knight Separately. Jump in and out of combat using leap attack to diminish their numbers.

Always keep Zeal as your primary attack; for your aura, work with what suits your character best. Try to get Fire and Lightning Resist maxed out. Use a Resistant Aura for whatever resistance you lack most in. If both resistances are good, use Thorns as your Aura.

Before hitting the Seals, make sure everything is clear. The Grand Vizier can prove to be a problem, since he and his minions will drain your mana in seconds. Unless you have a lot of mana potions, you'll be left to attack normally. Hit them as much as you can, then run to safety. Keep doing this to play safe. For Lord de Seis, take out his minions first, and avoid his attacks, so you don't drop your potions. Once all his minions are dead, attack him straight on, he'll always try to run, so a weapon with a cold attack to slow him down a bit will always help. When you face Infector, Thorns as your Aura works best. Make sure not to get surrounded by their fast speed, and fight in the main room to have a lot of running space.

Running around is a good idea here, and Decoy will also serve as a way to draw away enemy fire. Shoot down the Oblivion Knights on sight with Immolation arrows or Lightning Bolts. If you're level 30, a Valkyrie is great to have here.

Kill the Grand Vizier’s minions with Explosive Arrows, and the Vizier himself with Cold. The Infector should be killed with Cold Arrows after you led him away from his minions. When you engage the Oblivion Knights, retreat to corners as stated above. Shoot any Knight that ventures into your sight.
