Terror's End:

Recommended Level: 26-30
Quest Given By: Tyrael
Location: The Chaos Sanctuary
Difficulty: Very Hard
Reward: Powerful Rare
Main Objectives: Kill Diablo

Preparations:
With all five seals unlocked, it is time to face the final boss of Diablo II, the Lord of Terror. Diablo has a wide range of spells in his arsenal, and is no push over. He's primary attack is lightning, and hence lightning resistance is particularly helpful here. Both Resistance to Cold and Fire will also help to various degrees.

Diablo's most powerful attack is his massive ray of lightning. If you're caught under this spell, expect your life to be drained in seconds!

Before you fight Diablo, you'll want to go back to town and fill your belt with potions. Once you're back in the Chaos Sanctuary, launch a backup portal in case you die. Make sure the portal is well way from Diablo himself.

The Lord of Terror:
Diablo is located in the center pentagram, without any minions. He is quite fast, and can deal cold damage with his claws. The spells he'll use include Fire Nova, Bone Prison, Lightning Assault (Continuous ray of pink lightning) and Flame Strike (Walls of fire erupt from his hand). While Five Nova and Flame Strike looks impressive, they won't do much damage. He's most destructive weapon here is his lightning assault, which can deal up to a few hundred hit points of damage in a second.

Diablo is only 50% resistant to cold, making it an effective way to slow down the Lord of Terror.

Diablo is 50% resistant to lightning, cold and fire, while 75% resistant to poison. He'll often attempt to trap players in a Bone Prison, and finish them off with Lightning. He also has plenty of hitpoints and high defense, and in summary a formidable foe.

General Tips:
To help you defeat the Lord of Terror, here's a few general tips that'll work for every character class:

  • Avoid casting Town Portal near Diablo. The Lord of Terror often casts Bone Prison on town portals, so you'll be trapped as soon as you teleport back to the Chaos Sanctuary. Instead launch your

portal near one of the fives seals, so you have plenty of time to prepare yourself before you face him.

  • As soon as you see Diablo rear back, retreat. This is a sign that he will launch his deadly ray of lightning. Instead of running backwards, run around Diablo. That way his ray won't hit you.

  • Mages should stay clear from the Lord of Terror. He can kill you in one hit if you're not lucky.

  • There is no point trying to avoid his Fire Novas. They will almost always hit, but deals a pathetic amount of damage.
Aftermaths:
When Diablo dies, keep your eyes sharp. You'll want to grab a rare before other members of the part hog it all.

When Diablo dies, he will drop an equal number of rares as the amount of people in your game. These rares are always powerful, and will probably be better than anything you have at that stage of the game. Make sure you pick them up before the game ends.

In Multiplayer games, you may wish to make sure that you have plenty of inventory space available before you kill Diablo. Otherwise there's a good chance that you won't be able to pick up anything in time.

If you wish to hear Tyrael and Cain to congratulate you, you'll need to hurry. Cain's speech is rather long, so you'll have just enough time to listen to both of them if you don't fool around. You have now passed Diablo and can either try Nightmare, Hardcore and the Secret Cow Level.

Character Tips:

Bone Spear is an effective way for the Necromancer to attack without endangering himself. Remember that not many monsters are resistant to pure magic.

Unlike other battles, a Blood Golem will be almost useless here unless you have it and golem mastery on very high levels. The shear amount of damage Diablo does can tear through your Golem in a few seconds. This not only makes it a waste of mana, but can also cost a great amount of health on yourself. Instead use either an Iron or a Fire Golem.

Once you find Diablo, let your Golem and other minions engage him. Stand back and cast Amplify Damage, followed by a barrage of Bone Spears. Retreat when you Golem dies, there should be plenty of metal objects around the Chaos Sanctuary, so you'll never run out of items to make Golems. Repeat till Diablo falls.

Static Field is the best way to reduce Diablo's health. Since it does damage proportional to Diablo's health rather than a fixed amount, it is much more effective.

Diablo has a wide range of hit points, and hence it is best to attack him first with Static Field. Having at least level 3 of this skill will ensure that you don't need to get too close to Diablo. Run circles around him whenever he is about to launch his lightning. Also cast Blizzard to slow Diablo down and have Thunder Storm (if you have it) on at all times.

Once Diablo has only a slight fraction of original health, run back and target him with Glacial Spike. Go to town whenever you run out of mana. Repeat the process till his dead.

Hack and Slash your way through the Chaos Sanctuary. If you have a weapon that steals mana, keep Double Swing as your primary attack. Whirlwind is also extremely powerful, if you've reached level 30.

When you engage the Infector and the Grand Vizier, use Shout to boost your defense and Battlecry to weaken theirs, then follow-up with a series of hacks and slashes. Lord De Seis is more difficult, and you might want to retreat to face each Oblivion Knight Separately. Jump in and out of combat using leap attack to diminish their numbers.

Diablo has several different attacks, and uses spells along with them. A Paladins best bet is to have both his lightning and fire resistances maxed. If your items do not add to sufficient resistances, use a Resistant Aura of the element you lack in. If your resistances are good without auras, there are several other auras to use. Zeal and Fanaticism works well for very fast attacks. Vengeance and Thorns work well together to deal great damage. In either case, Zeal should be kept as your primary attack and switch to Vengeance whenever you have sufficient mana. Diablo's lightning attack is all a Paladin really has to fear, so keep your belt fully loaded with healing potions, and rejuvenation potions and mana potions in your inventory. Keep a town portal open just incase, but watch out for the bone prison Diablo casts on it..

Before you engage Diablo, set up a Decoy or a Valkyrie if possible. If you use arrows, stand back and shoot Freezing or Ice arrows. These should slow him down enough so that you can dodge his attacks. Sidestep any lightning he fire and simply keep shooting. Switch between Immolation of Ice arrows for best effect.

Javelin users can opt either to attack with melee or missile. Use a stream of Lightning Bolts to reduce Diablo's health. If you have plenty of weapons to spare, you may also want to run in with impale.
