Chapter 1: The Rise of the Naga
Difficulty: Hard Heroes: Maive Significant Items: Spider Ring, Tomb of Intelligence Side
Quests: Enraged Beast, Search and
Rescue |
The Expansion begins with a fairly easy
mission, though certainly not a pushover. While the vast majority
of it can be done very easily with your forces, you'll want to
conserve as much as possible till the very end. Try to avoid unit
deaths, especially your special huntress Misha, you'll need to
have all the firepower you master on the final battle.
Hero Development Guide: Maive will
rise to Level 3 on this Level
Maive: Level 2: Level 1 Fan of Knives, Level 1 Blink,
Level 3: Level 2 Fan of Knives, Level 1 Blink
Unit Control: This is your first
using the Warden, so here's some tips on how use her well. On this
level, you will find plenty of Mana Runes, almost one after every
battle. Since these runes regenerate around 150 mana, and cannot
be carried with you, it means that you really do not need to
conserve your mana at all. Whenever facing more than 2 opponents,
use Fan of Knives, it does excellent damage, and will make your
job much, much easier.
Against any opponents, make sure to focus fire. The archers are
weak, and there's no quick way of healing, so pay close attention
to their health. This mission is done entirely during night time,
so if any archer gets to red, use the Hide Ability. This should
minimise casualties.
Once you get more than 10 troops, keep your women in two control
groups. Huntresses and Maive in 1, and Archers and Dryads in the
other. We won't go through each of the individual battles in
detail, just follow the above guidelines and you'll be
fine.
Following the Trail After defeating
the pack of Mor'guls at A, position Maive near the shore on the
East and you should the Island at G. Use Blink to teleport there,
defeat the creep and get a Tomb of Intelligence and a Rune of
Mana.
Continue to B, defeat the Satyrs, then meet up with extra forces
at C. They'll give you the enraged beast quest.
 | | A wall of Hidden huntresses make it
impossible for Owlbears to hurt you. |
The Enraged Beast: When you
approach D, you'll spot the Beast fleeing away. Do not chase him
heedlessly. Instead, cautiously bring your troops to the Choke
Point, where you'll spot the Enraged Owlbear as three of his
guards.
Line up your Huntresses to block off the Chokepoint, and hide. Now
have your Archer's pick off the Owlbears one by one. They can't do
a thing! Well, the beast can stomp a few times, but just hide
again. You'll suffer little damage.
Search and Rescue: Proceed to E,
where you'll first meet the Naga's. The Sirens are nasty fighter
mages with a powerful spell, Parasite. When cast upon a unit, that
unit suffers continuous damage. Once it dies, it spawns a
Mor'gul... just like Broodling in Starcraft. Make sure to Fan of
Knife the Sirens, and kill them as quickly as possible. In the
crates, you'll find a Tomb of Intelligence +2
Blink to the Island at F, defeat the Siren there to get another
Tomb.
Continue to H, defeat the Mor'guls. Blink up the Waterful, and
dispatch the Spiders with Fan of Knives. Take the Spider Ring and
the Rune.
As you continue towards I, you'll get you'll get second optional
quest, Search and Rescue. When you engage the Satyrs at I, try to
spot the Hellcaster as soon as possible. Killing him before he
casts Raise Dead is highly conductive to your health. Use blink to
get up close if necessary. Rescue your troops and proceed towards
J till you reach a gate, prepare yourself for the final battle. I
would advise saving here. | | The Mymidons have 1080 hp, and are not easy to take out.
Lave them till last and kill the weaker creatures
first. |
Rescue the Ships: You have six
ships, and the Naga's are ordered to destroy them. Most of the
Naga Force will ignore your troops...
Ignore the few troops that's not attacking the ships and attack
the others with everything you've got. The flying creatures,
Couatls, are the most dangerous. Use your archers to destroy them
first, then the Sirens. Finally, engage the Myrmidons last, when
you kill one, the other will turn around from the boats. Your
ships are safe.
Remember, your priority are the ships, any losses are irrelevant.
I managed to do this on hard with two boats on red, so it's not
easy. However, provided your focus fire and use Fan of Knives as
much as possible, you should win.
Mission Secrets: (by Chib) 1. To the far right of the first burning village you encounter, it is possible for Maiev to Blink to a small island to the right. Destroy the crate there, you will be ambushed by a group of Mur'gul's, but their death's shall reward you with an item and some runes.
2. You can then Blink from this island to a smaller island up and left where you will find a Rune of Mana.
3. You can once again Blink from this small island to another island above you (also accesible from "the mainland"), three crates and a Mur'gul await you.
4. At the burning village where you first go up against the Sirens, you can again use Maiev to Blink to an island off to the right, you'll find another Siren. Is kill. Is good.
5. At the top of the previously mentioned burning village, you can Blink to a small spot above the top left trees and practically right in the sea. From here, you can blink again further left, and then once more into a small secret area; two crates shall be found there.
6. Don't forget to blink to the two different sections above the waterfalls at the Fountain of Life (left and bottom right).
7. Up and past the waterfalls, there is a small bay to the East, go to the top of this and Blink along the coastline next to the trees, you'll get to a secret area with a Furbolg Hermit who will graciously deliver you some Healing Wards. ;)
