About the Instance:
The Burning Furnace is the second instance available to players of the Burning
Crusade, and can done straight after completing Hellfire Ramparts. Although it
is slightly more difficult, the extra items gained through the first instance
should make the Burning Furnace quite tractable. However, in terms of time
efficiency, the Ramparts offers better loot per unit time. The Burning Furnace
takes roughly 1.5 times 2 times as long as the Ramparts, and yet offers only 3
our of 4 bosses. Thus, it should be done mainly for the quest, and for items
that you specifically want. That said, most people consider the Furnace a lot
fun, and it is certainly much more spectacular visually.
Party Makeup:
Burning Furnace does not demand a stringent party make-up, and any 5 man with a
reasonable balance stands a good chance. It is recommended, however, that
players bring some form of crowd control for the fight against the Beholder,
either in the form of fears or polymorph. The later parts of the instance can
also be completely trivialised by the Warlock's Enslave Demon spell. A Secondary
healer and tank, such as Druid will void the possibility of wiping if a key
member of the party is CCed.
Useful Equipment:
No special equipment is required, though a good supply of bandages is helpful.
Finding Your Way
to the Instance:
The Burning Furnace is part of the Hellfire Citadel complex, situated in the
centre of Hellfire Peninsula. To get to the entrance, go west from the bridge
that leads you into the Ramparts, and enter the citadel from the southwestern
passage.
Hellfire Rampart Layout:
The Burning Furnace is a medium sized instance, in which mobs are reasonably
spaced out. The dungeons features 3 boss encounters and is extremely linear. The
trash mobs are fairly simple till one reaches the end, and no special techniques
are involved.
Quest Quick Guide:
A Quick guide on each
quest
The Blood is Life:
Get this quest after returning
the letter dropped by the final boss, Nazzan, in the Hellfire Ramparts. This
is a basic collection quest, and provided only 1 or 2 of your party members
have the quest, it can be easily done in a single run.
Heart of Rage:
Get this quest after returning
the letter dropped by the final boss, Nazzan, in the Hellfire Ramparts. To
do this quest basically involves exploring the instance up to the final
boss. However, you do not actually need to kill the final boss to complete
the quest (though you will want to do so for his loot... ).
To Kill the Maker:
Follow the stairs upwards the
wide passageway towards the keeper. During the process, you'll fight groups of
2-3 Fel Orcs, casters included. Pull them sufficiently back to avoid fear
effects, and either CC or kill the casters first. Nothing here trickier than
Scholomance.
The Maker resides in the way of
the first gateway. During the fight, he has 3 attacks:
Acid Spray:
Sprays a cone of acid in
front of him.
Knock Back:
Hurls a target backwards by
20 yards and resets threat on the target (so he goes for someone else)
Mind Control:
A non-dispellable mind
control.
Fortunately, the
maker has low hp and a weak physical attack, and should not trouble any decent
party. Make sure to tank him with your back to the wall, so that he be instantly
taunted after his knock back attack. Having a mage or a warlock to fear of
polymorph the mind controlled target will also make the fight a lot easier.
Finally, make sure the Tank is on the opposite side of the Maker, so that the
part does not need to deal with acid breath.

Broggok the Beholder
A few more trivial pulls and
Brogg will be in sight, behind a second bone gateway. A Level is nearby, but do
NOT activate it till you're ready for the encounter... possibly the hardest in
the instance. There are four slave pens, two of each side of the chamber. Once
the level is released, each of these pens will open, and its inhabitants will
charge at you. Once all four groups are defeated, Brogg himself will attack.
There is barely any time in between each encounter, and you will not have time
to eat or drink. Thus, make sure everyone has bandages, evocation is charged,
and a few potions won't hurt.
The Four groups are off
increasing difficulty, featuring an increasing number of elites. You'll be able
to get the Tank to tank the single and duo elite mobs in the first encounters
and AOE the rest. The last two groups are more difficult. The elites will
randomly charge at cloth casters, while throwing off all previous aggro, thus
tanking 3 or more becomes quite impossible. This is where AOE fears, and CCs
come in handy. Warlocks, Warriors and and Priests should attempt to keep most
mobs chain feared, allowing for easy kills. Bandage when you have time, and
attempt to conserver some mana.
Broggok himself is not a hard
boss, and provided all 5 party members are alive, and your healer still has 30%
mana, it should not be a hard fight. He's special attacks involve:
Poison Nova:
Releases a slow moving circle of
cloud... just move away. .tic
Poison Bolt:AA
~2000 Damage Poison bolt with a nasty DOT. Dispel it.
Make sure to dispel poison on
the bolts, and hammer away at him... you'll be fine.

To Kill Kel'dan
The trash mobs past Kel'dan gets a little tougher, featuring Shadowmoon Warlocks
with accompanying Felguards. The Warlocks deal nasty damage with their
shadowbolts, while the Felguards have a charge attack that resets their aggro.
These encounters can be trivialised by Enslaving a Felguard, and using it to
tank the Warlocks. Otherwise CC the Warlock if possible, or tank the Felguard
will the rest of the party takes down the Warlock. The toughest encounter,
featuring 2 Felguards and 2 Warlocks, will need some juggling. CC a Warlock,
pull them back. Have all party members stand next to the felguards so that they
cannot charge and deaggro. The casters and hunters will then need to deal with
the second Warlock quickly.
Kel'dan himself rests upon the
final anti-chamber. Begin the encounter by attacking the acolytes, all five will
charge are you, but they have low HP and can be AOEd quickly. Before they die,
you may get a debuff on you that increases shadow damage taken by 1000. Killing
Kel'dan with the debuff is still not problem, but to be safe, you may wish to
keep one acolyte polymorphed till the effect wears out.
Kel'dan himself is a pushover
compared to Broggak. He has two main abilities:
Flame Nova:
Kel'dan will stand still,
charge for about 3s and release a 4000 damage fire nova. Fortunately, he yells
for everyone to come closer and its extremely easy to dodge.
Cone of Shadow:
Shots a cone of shadow bolts in front of him, just have the tank on the opposite
side of Kel'dan.
Provided you avoid most of the
fire novas, and tank in the corect direction, Kel'dan will go down quickly. Head
out via the southern passageway for a short cut to the exit, and you're down!
