Razorfen Kraul is a comparatively
small instance that quite suits a evening run. Like Wailing Caverns, it is
filled with twists and turns, with no obvious route to the boss. So mobs
themselves, however, are quite standard, and should pose not special problems.
Quest Quick Guide:
A Quick guide on each
quest
Blueleaf Tubers:
Get it off the Goblin next to
the Bank at Ratchet. This is a relatively simple quest that may take a while
to do. The nice thing is that you can literally do this quest standing in one
spot at the instance. Find a place with a Tuber, then get your Snufflenose to
Seek it out. Once done, you can repeat the process to pick up another tuber in
exactly the same place! Either huh?
Going, Going, Guano:
As soon as your each the
Caverns at C, the first bat you kill will drop the Guano you need. Good bonus
exp for no extra work, and you'll want to do this quest, as its a prerequisite
for some more bonus EXP in Scarlet Monastry.
Vengeful Fate:
Killing Chalga Razorflank is
the main quest here. You'll find the quest in Thunderbluff.
Wellix the Importer:
There's also a bonus escort
quest in Razorfen Kraul, which can be done on your way out of the instance.
Every quest can be shared, but
you'll probably want to get BlueLeaf Tubers yourself. For, you need the
equipment to be able to detect them easily without having to rely on another
party member.
Party Makeup:
Razorfen Kraul requires no
specific party make-up, just some usual form of DPS. At times, mages may become
quite useful due to Polymorph, and a Shaman/Rogue good the final caster boss.
But no class is essential.
Finding Your Way
to the Instance:
Razorfen Kraul is located at the
very bottom of the Barrens, on the west side of the road. To get there, you may
either run down from Crossroads, or up to Freewind Post in Thousand Needles.
Personally, I find the latter method much faster, and it is much easier to find
groups from Freewind and the level range there is approximately the same as the
instance.
Special Combat Tips:
Fighting the Razorfen Kraul will
consist almost entirely of Quillboars, both melee and caster types.
Neither requires special mention, and can be fought using completely stand
pulling techniques (See Ragefire Chasm Walkthrough)
 |
| Angelos the Raging is one huge boar. |
Fighting Through the Tangled
Tunnels
The first step of the instance
involves fighting through a tangle of caverns, populated with various quillboars,
provided you shock and counter spell casters to pull them, and don't charge
headlong into combat, you should have any problems. Turn right at the first
junction and follow the path till you reach point A. At this point, the path
will lead into a rather large cavern. Be careful, do not rush headlong into the
cavern! Patrollers here, and the fact that you have mobs on all sides could make
aggro hell. Instead, pull each group of quilboars into the passage. Clear the
left, and right flanks first, before proceeding forwards.
At Point B, there is a Hero
Quillboar, who is completely optional. However, I highly recommend you kill him,
given that he does drop a very nice axe, The Corpsemaker. Engagement here
includes two adds, and may become tricky. The best method is to polymorph our
gouge one of the adds, have the tank attack the boss, and the rest of the party
pull and kill one of the adds. Kill the other ad, before the boss.
Now continue on the blue path,
you will notice that this route will take you across several bridges. After you
go past one bridge, stop. This is an optimal location for Redleaf Tubers! Just
stay here till everyone n your party has all their tubers collected! Eventually
you will reach the Caverns at C.
Through to Razorflank:
The caverns are populated with
wondering pats, who thankfully are just dumb animals. They fly around blindly,
and tough tough, can be pulled and killed one at a time. When you reach the
cavern at C, destroy the guards and then the two Quillboars that maintains a
forcefield. Inside is Angathelos the Raging, a huge quillboar! No problem, treat
him as a tough melee mob. Kill the guy for a chance at a very nice dagger.
After more bats, you will finally
emerge from the caverns and arrive at Chelga's Hut.
Killing Razorflank:
Chalga Razorflank has a deadly
range of fire and lightning spells at her disposal, and has quite a lot of HP to
boot. However, she lacks any special abilities and can be treated very much as
just a tough boss mob. The key tools to defeat her is A), to have the healer
constantly healing the person she attacks, and B) Land plenty of kicks, shield
bashes, counterspells and shocks on her.
 |
| Chalga's Most powerful Spell in her Disposal is Chain Lighting, however it can be counteracted with the Priest's Prayer of Healing,
or the Shaman's Chain Heal |
When the battle begins, have the
tank, followed by all other melee charge at her. A Shaman should purge her
protection spells. After a big wackfest, Chalga will be dead. The main quest is
complete, but make sure to pick up the note that she drops, for its a quest item
that leads to an elite quest near the sister instance, Razorfen Deep.
Escorting Wellix the Importer:
You may not know that there is an
addition quest in Razorfen Kraul, where one needs to escort a poor goblin out of
the instance. Jump down the cliff from Chelga's Hut, and you'll lands
practically on the poor guy. Now there are two options.
If your group handled the
instance so far with ease and room to spare, talk to Wellix Immediately and
escort him outside along the green path. The mobs you fight on the way are much
easier than those to Razorflank, but the Goblin is notorious aggroing 5 of more
at the same time.
Otherwise, a clear a path to the
entrance via the green dotted line first, before talking to the Goblin... then
you have a slow for simple walk outside! Either way, instance complete!
A Note about Rewards:
The main quest will give you some
very nice rewards, include a choice between a Shield, and a Chain Belt. If you
are capable of wearing Chain, I highly recommend the Belt. The reason for this
is that you'll be able to get a Far Superior Aegis of the Scalarlet Commander in
your next instance, Scarlet Monastry. On the other hand, the Chain Belt that's
given as reward will surpass any chain belt in armor value till your nearly
Level 50! For example, as a Shaman, I would choose the Belt as a long term
investment over the shield.
